Thank you Franz for the information, however all the documentation that came
with the model was miss placed by my predesessor. I know I can get a copy
from IBM REDBOOK online but I forgot the web site. Can you or anyone help
with this?

Hi Crosby,

as far as I recall what my IBM consultant told me when we set up BRMS in
1998, it is one parameter in the Backup Contol Group, which controls your
restore possibilities.

When creating your CTLGRP, you can specify parameter "Retain Object Detail".
If you specify "Err" or "No", no details about saved objects are saved in
the history file and therefore are not available for restore (for further
information on that, see "Backup, Restore, and Media Services for AS/400",
Doc.No. SC41-5345-01, Chapter 7 "Tailoring Your Backup")

However, there IS a way to restore single objects, even if you didn't
instruct BRMS to retain object detail. This is explained in detail in
Chapter 8 "Performing Selected Recoveries" page 138 of the BRMS book.

Short desciption:
Type WRKMEDIBRM at the command line and press ENTER
Saved entries from BRMS history file appear, sort by date. Select the
library you want to restore a file from, type 7 ("Restore") next to it and
press ENTER, which brings you to the "Select Recovery Items" screen.
Type 7 ("Specify object") next to the Lib and press ENTER.
This brings you to the RSTOBJ screen.
Type the name of the specific object. Press ENTER to start Restore
operation.

Good luck!

Betreff: BRMS save

I have setup my backup for our SAP but the other day I was trying to
resotre a file from the backup but was unable to do so. I called IBM (so
helpful ha) but they told me that I would have to restore the entire lib.
just to restore an object from that lib. My question you guys is there a
specific way of setting up BRMS to do the save? If so can I get notes or
advise on how to setup the BRMS correctly. Thanks again guys.
