Adding An Application Server
Nadia,One of the first questions you have to ask is whether or not you can add an
application instance on your current hardware or if you need additional
hardware. Doing a transactional sizing might help you make that
determination as well as looking at any capacity planning data you have been
gathering. The decisions surrounding which of these solutions is
appropriate is driven most effectively by a cooperative effort that includes
the SAP QuickSizer and the IBM competency center.
In the event that you find that additional hardware is necessary, you might
want to take a look at the SBx series from IBM as they are designed to be
application servers for SAP on iSeries and their price/performance point is
extremely good.
In the event that you can add an app server to your current server, you need
to make sure that you take into account the additional resources necessary
to run the app instance. Actual DASD to install the instance will be very
small, but you will use more temp space which will affect overall DASD
utilization and you may need to consider adding Main Store to accommodate
the app instance.

Hi SAP List,
How do you do?
I am experiencing a situation where I need to add an Application Server.
I need to add work processes to our system.
We are currently running our system on AS400 (V4R5M0) that has an
application
server, message queue, work processes on one system/box.
Currently we have 40 work processes. We need to add more WP because
we notice on regular business days, our CPU has a process time more than
3 min and there are also some jobs waiting on the Waiting Queue.
I am trying to add more WP so there is no waiting time.
Have anyone added an application server to AS400 before?
What's the best way to add an application server?
Can we add an application server that's PC based server, Compaq, or
in AS400?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
