Hello Alberto,her is my upgrade checklist:
1. upgrade the R/3 Kernel to at least Patch-Level:
Kernel-Patches for the V5R1M0-certification:
31I: 604
40B: 840
45B: 668
46D: 628
Kernel-Patches for the V4R5M0-certification:
31I: 524
40B: 712
45B: >=488 (new CD 51010951)
46C: 205
46D: it is certified just from the beginning (Patch 0 or 1)
You can check your actual Patch level with
transaction sm51 --> release info
For applying the kernel you must look in oss for the related documentation.
Search with the CD-no.
Note 49365 gives a general overview how to get and apply kernel patches
especially if no CD is available and you must get an update from sapserv(x).
2. perform transaction SICK, SM21, DB02 and continue if no errors reported3
. don't upgrade when SAP does upgrading OSS
4. check OSS and ECS
5. STOPSAP, ENDSBS QSERVER, Stop OS-Collector
6. inactivate automatical start at IPL (SYSVAL QSTRUPPGM)
7. delete SQL-Packages
8. upgrade OS/400 like described in the memo to user and the guide for
software installation
9. install the CUM-Tape
go PTF à Auswahl 8
10. apply additonal PTF's listed in INFO (V4R5: APAR II12399) (V5R1: APAR
II12833) in the following order:
1. Cumulative Package
2. IPL
3. DB-fix package
4. IPL
5. HIPER package
6. Additional PTF's
7. IPL pwrdwnsys Restart *yes
8. Check the PTF's with GO PTF, Option 5

11. Sekundätsprache installieren (Engisch = 2924)
12. ADDLICKEY, WRKLICINF if required
13. Check installation protocol
14. Check opticonnect (WRKCFGSTS *CTL)
15. SAP-Router starten
16. STARTSAP
17. perform transaction SICK, SM21, DB02 and continue if no errors reported1
8. activate automatical start at IPL (if required)

Hello,
with the new release of OS/400 (the V5R1M0), I want upgrade the Iseries-830
in my company from OS/400-V4R5M0 to
OS400-V5R1M0.
I tell you if this step are correct:
1) Download last patches for SAP KERNEL 4.6D that currently we use.
2) Check if the SAP R/3 system run with OS/400-V4R5M0.
3) Backup the entire SYSTEM.
4) Load , with automatically IBM installation procedure, the new OS/400
release (V5R1M0) with PTF-CUM C1114510.
5) Load the SAP R/3 support required PTF from last APAR II12833.
6) IPL the SYSTEM and all OK ?????
