Background system stops working

Hello Wilbert,

Our work processes said SEMW also but OSS said that it appeared that the
WP's were still not connected. You can also stop the BDC WP's from the
AS400 and start them again. OSS told me the 4.6D kernel had a problem with
this. If you look in the mailing archive for this list, there are several
emails with Back ground processing problems. Maybe one of them could help
you try something else.

Hello Chris;

Yes we disconnect the database during the backup (AS/400, 4.6C, 368 kernel
). The problem with the background system starts around the time the backup
it is running. However we do this every day, normally this is no problem.
Only a few times (in the past) we needed to do manually a RCNR3SYS (AS/400
stuff). A disconnected database can be recognised by WPxx jobs with function
DLY-60.

I had the BG problem last week 2 times during the day. It started both times
since the disconnect of the database. Both times, a very havy batch job
(same job) was running, and causing the problem (95% sure about this). For
the time being, that job is on the black-list. The status of the WPxx for
the batch-jobs was SEMW, so this it looked different.

Hello Wilbert.

We have had this exact thing happen on our system (4.6C, HP13, 540 kernel).
Do you disconnect your R/3 database during the backup and reconnect after it
has finished? That was our problem where the work process was still not
connected to the R/3 Db. After stopping and starting the system again, the
WP's re-connected successfully to the Db and would run jobs.

Hello everyone;

Last week we experienced the following problem:

The background system was not working. All jobs which were ready to run, got
status: READY with a delay of thousands of seconds. They should become
ACTIVE.

With SM50 I saw that the 5 BGD work-processes were empty.

Since I didn't know what to do (newbie, collegue on vacation), I stopped and
started the R/3 system. After the start, almost all jobs started running.

Does anyone have any idee what was going on?

We use:
SAP R/3 4.6C, system patch SAPKH46C13
Kernel 4.6D level 368
OS/400 V4R5M0 cum. pack 0294

Kind regards;
