Gary -The performance difference between the 6512 and 6533 IOP is less than 5%.
You might want to save yourself some money and stick with the 6512. Put that
money towards more drive (where the performance boost will come from).

One thing you should look at (and have IBM verify) is, if your 6713 drives
are on say a 5083 expansion unit and if you have a 6512 raid controller card
in the Expansion unit then you may not be getting the speed you should. Look
into obtaining a 6533 card.

Yes, we have a mixture of 6713, 6714, 6717 and 6718
in our hospital production machine, i.e all sizes and all speeds.
Why the mix? Needed space, replaced 4GB by 8GB, now 8 GB by 17 GB...
Although we are slightly under the 'guesstimated recommendation'
for the number of disk arms we see an average arm usage
between 2 and 9 percent (in 8 hours).
No problems so far! DASD performance is not our bottleneck...
But: Your mileage may vary... (OK, Lloyd?)

Anyone out there running 17GB drives in a production environment? I know
that IBM says not to,
but the last time we spec'd our systems out, they said to run 4GB drives
because the 9GB's were
too slow for SAP. Well now we have 35 9GB drives and they perform great.
