Hello Rick,I can put my $0.02 in on SAPOSCOL... Without this running you/we willhave a
dificult time performing performance analysis, remote performance-related
support, EarlyWatch sessions etc. Running this shouldn't impact performance
(in general). Perhaps Volker has more to say on this.

What about higher releases of OS/400? We are on R/3 4.0B and went to V4R5 of
OS/400 a few months ago. We had used SAVR3SYS (DSCR3SYS and RCNR3SYS) with
R3STS(*DSCDB) for a couple of years with no problems whatsoever (also
without BRMS-just from the system scheduler). However, in the last few
months, we have noticed the SAPOSCOL job being terminated just as SAVR3SYS
is starting (sigusr1 during the DSCR3SYS stage). Unfortunately, it does not
happen all the time - just frequently enough to be annoying. We went to the
SAVR3SYS in the first place because of some issues with using PRECHECK(*YES)
and SAVACT(*YES) on the SAVLIB command but unfortunately I cannot remember
exactly what they were (longer run times? save failures?). While on the
subject of SAPOSCOL, does it also serve a function other than data
collection - we first noticed the absence of a running SAPOSCOL because the
performance of R/3 was much worse than normal.

sorry to tell you that DSCR3SYS and RCNR3SYS don't work because of a lot of
reasons (especially in higher SAP-releases). So I think it is best to get a
good backup without these commands.
