ALV scrolling?

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately I do not fit the bill on the ALV front other than having
fielded many complaints about lots of MB5x transactions. We are at 4.0B so
presumably some of this is better in 4.6C but this does sound suspiciously
like two things that have happened here recently.
1) We are at V4R5M0 and had just applied the dreaded DB fix pack #8.
Response time on MB56 and MB5B went from an already annoying 20 seconds to
an enraging 10 minutes (every bean counter in every company here loves
MB5B). With the application of SF66114, the response time went back to about
20 seconds (and they are not nearly as annoyed by it - silver lining, etc. -
I was also "allowed" to sneak in the rest of DB fix pack #9 later that
evening)
2) There is a collective note for MB5B (which also applies to some other
MB5xes) which discusses a recent redesign of MB5B and some dependent modules
and specifically mentions some ALV limitations. I'm not sure if there is a
similar collective note for 4.6C but it's worth a look. Personally, I'm
waiting until I'm "allowed" to get it all in with Hot Packs/ LCP's.

good luck,
Rick

Subject: ALV scrolling?

I need some advice from someone with more ABAP List Viewer experience than
what I have (which is practically anybody....)

We're on 4.6C, using transaction MB56. We're starting to use transaction
BMBC, which calls something that looks suspiciously like MB56. In each
case, we're presented with a screen that scrolls poorly: if we fill several
screens with bottom up or top down, we can't easily scroll through the data.

For example, with MB56, bottom-up analysis:

- I bring up the initial screen, and expand it fully with the double-down
arrow.
- My "top", "bottom", "page-up", and "page-down" arrows on the top are not
active.
- My scroll bar on the right, if it is proportional, shows I'm looking at
about half of the available data.
- If I scroll down by clicking below the scroll bar, I go down a page and
the scroll bar indicates that I'm at the bottom, but there is still more
information to be shown. At this point, clicking above or below the scroll
bar does the same thing as pressing the "page-up"/"page-down" keys on the
keyboard.
- If I click inside the screen, in the list, my scroll bar doesn't change,
but now I can use the "page-down" key to see stuff past what I was looking
at before.

There's no consistency with any other screen processing that I've seen in
SAP-land. We put in an earlier question on this problem, and were told that
a kernel patch was supposed to make it better, but that it was operating as
designed. We've put that patch on a test environment, and it seems to act
the same.

Is anyone else familiar with this problem? Is this just the way that ALV
works, or is this screen goofy, or something else? I think it is just
poorly done; other users here at the company are telling me that it is
unacceptable. What are my options?

Thanks in advance....
