FW: Has COMMON lost its value? - feedback

I'll provide my two cents as well.... Anyone have change for a dollar?

Having also attended COMMON and similar regional type AS/400 conferences I
will have to attest that these type of conferences lose their touch with
the R/3 community.

As a former(sometimes I wonder) developer/programmer there are topics in
these conferences that you will not find in the TechEd areas...... COBOL,
RPG, CL... maybe even Smalltalk! From the R/3 perspective, there isn't a
whole lot of demand to write programs,

What we have here is a group which have a common base, SAP R/3 and the
iSeries (AS/400). We have common goals and common problems.

By implementing SAP on the iSeries, we step to a new level on the platform.
Many installations I know of are still running twinax and green screens.
There are still those coding in some of the languages I mentioned above.

COMMON now attracts a different crowd, as our direction now steers in the
direction with SAP. COMMON still is in the same direction... and it's
course hasn't faltered. Should we say that that is the problem with
COMMON? How many *new* tricks can someone present with CL or RPG.... Or
how many times can I sit in on the *ultimate* subfile program. Basically,
it may have become time for many to move on. It still may appeal to those
new to the craft.

It all depends on the person and the knowledge that one seeks.
