Moving SAP system

Using type 21 works. I've done it on V4R2 with 3.1i, and I put all of the
instructions from that effort below.
I take no responsibility for the accuracy of these instructions since I
haven't done it on newer OS levels, but they should get you very close.
Yes, you will have to create ASP2 ahead of time. You may need to update
the ethernet line description if the ethernet card resource name is
different on the new box.
Here's the rest of it.

The OS and LPPs and PTFs are installed, CHGNETA has been done to set the
system name and you have IPL'd the machine.
You are signed on as QSECOFR and are in restricted state.
At the command line, type
>CRTLIB R3<SID>JRN ASP(2)
This is because R3<SID>DATA with QSQJRN dependent on R3<SID>JRN will be
encountered first on the tape...it makes life easier if you create the lib
manually before restoring. You'll need to check the JRN lib and receiver
ownership later.
>CHGSYSVAL QJOBMSGQFL *PRTWRAP
For a log
> GO Restore, choose opt 21.
I did prompt *YES
Set "Message queue delivery" to *NOTIFY.
-Restore User Profiles
Press F10 for more input, then type *ALL for Allow object differences
parameter, then press enter.
-Restore Configuration
Type *NONE for the parameter System Resource Management(SRM), then press
F10 for more input, then type *ALL for Allow object differences parameter,
then press enter.
-Restore Library
Press F10 to see all parameters, type *ALL for the Data base member option,
then page down to the Allow Object Differences parameter and type *ALL
then press Enter.
You will see a message CPF3779 received during RSTLIB command. This is
expected. Reply G for go to continue. (If you check the joblog and you will
see the warnings "QSECOFR owns LIB R3<SID>JRN in QSYS" and "CPF3848 - 2
security or data format changes occurred.")
-Restore Document Lib Object
Press F10, then page down, then enter *ALL for the Allow object differences
parameter then press enter.
Next should be
-Restore Object (RST)
Press Enter. Then page down to the Allow Object Differences parameter and
type *ALL then press Enter.
When this is complete, the tape should automatically unload, depending on
the tape device you are using. This is ok since we are done with the tape.
Next should be
-Restore Authority
Press Enter.
- Do not Start Subsystem ....Press F3 - we don't want to start the
subsystems yet.

You will see a message -CPF2361- Error occurred with the option- as a
result of the CPF3779 you saw earlier. If you see any other error
messages, something went wrong and you should investigate the cause.

Make sure R3<SID>JRN and receivers are owned correctly. ( I had a cl pgm
that did this, but I can't find the source anymore to tell you the
steps...sorry!)

Set the OS/400 SYSVALs as described in the installation manual.

Enter WRKHDWRSC *CMN and make note of the "Resource Name" parameter for the
Ethernet Port - it will be CMNxx.
Enter WRKLIND ETHLINE, then option 5 to display. If the "Resource Name"
is the same, do nothing.
If it is different, go back and choose option 2, then change the name to
the CMNxx value you saw on the WRKHDWSRC screen.

STRSBS QCTL
This should also start TCP if you have it in QSTRUP, if not, STRTCP
stuff manually.
Test out TCP - ping, etc.

Signoff QSECOFR

Signon <SID>OFR
Update SAPLICENSE (new processor will need a new license)

Subject: Moving SAP system

Hi

We are discussing moving a production system between two as/400's. Both
systems are at v4r5. SAP is 3.1i. One system has the production SAP system
and the other just has the OS. There is no ASP 2 configured on the target
machine. We will need to configure the ASP on the target machine first.

One option is to do a type 21 save on the source machine and a type 21
restore on the target machine. Both machines have Ethernet cards. Has
anyone tried this ? We think that in theory we will be able to back up the
source machine , take it of the network and load the target machine
and bring it up as production. Before we test this I am interested if the
group has any thoughts/experiences of this technique. It is low risk
because all we need do is take the target box off the network and put the
source box back if there is a problem.

What we are doing is the same as if the source machine was lost and we
reloaded onto a new server.
