ASCII SAP AS400 questions from Starwood

Hi Eddy,

you are using the ASCII solution and try to have a look to the data. As you
can't see the correct data, you probably use the command DSPPFM. This shows
the data more or less binary to you. When you would use STRSQL and then
"SELECT * from mara" or RUNQRY QRYFILE(MARA) you'd see the correct english
data. This will always be correct as long as you are viewing to latin-1
data.
There is a tool called CRTSAPVIEW out that would create views with the CCSID
500 in order to have input access in RPG programs. As you are searching for
methods input, update and insert, I can only ask you to use interactive or
embedded SQL. As your job always has the CCSID 037 or 500 (at least EBCDIC),
the IBM-SQL-interface will translate this automatically to unicode (or
ascii) and vice versa.
