Speeding up client copies

Hi Volker

That may well explain why my earlier attempts at several WPs via RFC group
distribution only resulted in one WP being used.
I'll try leaving the defaults next time.

Thanks
Pete

Hi Peter,

now, something comes into my mind. If you cofigure the "RFC server" group "a
bit wrong", then it doesn't work. I think, the trick was, to leave
everything as defaults and NOT to enter any data in there.

Volker

Peter,

Volker is right. Using Parallel Processes is great with SAP. No only can
you use it for copies but also deleting clients within SAP (SCC5). Just
remember to leave a couple of DIALOG work processes free so you can access
the system easily to check on the job.

Good luck,
Chris

Hi Peter,

did you already try the parallelismn of the copy ?
"If you want parallelize client copy choose "Goto" -> "parallel processes"
over the menu to specify the name of the RFC server group and the maximum
number of work processes to be used."

Use transaction RZ12 to create an RFC server group:
Choose a name for the server group
For every instance that should participate create an entry with that server
group name
Later on, in transaction SCCL resp. SCC9 choose "Goto" (r) "parallel
processes" over the menu to specify the name of the RFC server group and
the maximum number of work processes to be used

Regards

Volker

Revered SAP-iSeries colleagues

Does anybody out there have any tips and tricks on speeding up local client
copies on the iSeries under 46C (ASCII) ? Profile parameters, system values
etc ?

Even the initial copy from client 000 to xyz after installation is taking
3-4 hours. Future copies to existing clients containing some config and
perhaps some data (but not much) are taking 7-8 hours. And this is on 830
and 840 machines, 2-3way, with 4-6 GB RAM. Nothing else is running, the CPU
is running at around 40%

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and regards
