LPAR
We have an 830 with 4 LPARs. One LPAR is for SAP PRD and one for DEVand TST. The other two are the primary and one for Domino.
There are a some great advantages:
Remote client copies should go much faster - will let you know after
this weekend. We have configured a Virtual ethernet line between the
LPARS that runs a 1G line speed. Comes with the box, not required to
buy Opticonnect since you aren't leaving the box. I use this line for
all client copies, transports, all RFC calls between the SAP
systems. Since this never leaves the box it saves significant loads
on our network.
Also, as of V5R1 you can dynamically (and easily with Ops Nav) move
devices and resources between LPARs - on the fly - no down time.
It's very slick!!
There's a good Redbook on LPARS; also there is a Redpaper "OS/400
V4R4 LPAR and SAP R/3: A Customer Report" - but as you can see it's
for V4R4 and a little outdated from a hardware and OS standpoint.
