R/3 releases > 4.6B on iSeries

Hi Volker,

I would like to further clarify my understanding. Please let me know if
these statements are correct.

- Releases prior to 4.6C run in EBCDIC on the iSeries.
- 4.6C can run in either EBCDIC or ASCII and contains the tools to perform
the conversion.
- Releases subsequent to 4.6C (beginning with 4.7) will run in ASCII and the
conversion must be completed prior to upgrading to one of these releases.

Regards,
Stan

Hi Stan,

I'm sorry, but you are right. The ASCII conversion can only be done on 4.6C
as ASCII is not available on iSeries 4.6B or lower.

The way would be:
- Upgrade from 4.6B to 4.6C
- convert from EBCDIC to ASCII
- Upgrade from 4.6C to a higher release (r/3 Enterprise)

Sorry,

Volker

Hi Volker,

I hope I have misunderstood your response, but I interpreted it to mean that
all iSeries customers must go to 4.6C prior to installing any higher
release. Is this correct? We're live on 4.6B and have no plans to install
4.6C due to the effort and the limited benefit over 4.6B.

Regards,
Stan

Hi Alessandro,

on iSeries, you have to go through 4.6C because of the Codepage Conversion.
On other platform, you could do this in one step. But 6.1 and 6.2 is just
the base release. The application is called "R/3 Enterprise" with the
internal version number 4.70.
So, if you will go to another platform, you could do a migration on 3.1I and
then an 1-step-upgrade to R3 Enterprise - as soon as it is available. (3.
quarter 2003)

Regards

Volker
