IBM Supporting 720 ???

Hi All,

From an Australian point of view (possibly the same elsewhere), the only
thing IBM have dropped is upgrades within 7xx models. That is, from model
7xx to another model 7xx. You can still purchase upgrades from 7xx to 8xx
models for a long time yet.

Hi, guys.

This is weird, unless IBM operates differently in different countries. Our
IBM guys tell us that our 730 will be supported into mid 2003. The Sxx
series became unsupported last year. We have been told that, with the
release of OS V5R2M0 later this year some time, SPD technology starts
becoming unsupported by the operating system. Typically, the 7xx series
still uses SPD, so maybe this is where the issue comes in. The newer 8xx
series only uses PCI technology which is what IBM tends to be enforcing.
From a (hardware) Maintenance (Agreement) point of view, though, the 7xx
should still be supported by IBM.

I think they dropped support last year for the 7xx series. We had to get
out of our 730 with short notice last year.

I liked the comment on the 720 not being supported by IBM. What is
this about? We have a 720 running our DEV system. What is not
supported by IBM? I haven't heard anything about this.

It sounds like the 830+4way is your best option, then run in 2 tier.
