Solution Manager

Hi Adam,

as the SAP krypto lib is not available for iSeries yet, at least the
saprouter will run on NT or whatever.

Where to place the Solution Manager is really your decision. But, the stuff
will consume really not much ressources. It is only useful to install the
6.10 based version and NOT to use the 4.6x version as this will not longer
be maintained.
So, it will be the easiest to just install an 6.10 Web Application Server
and install the Solution Manager there. As this system won't be modified and
is just a base system, the future maintainance effort for will be relatively
low.

As your knowledge will be mostly on iSeries, I would recommend to run it
there as well. The CPU consumption will be moderate and the DASD usage is
low as well. (<<20GB)
As 6.10 is only available in ASCII, you would need the QADRT on your system
and you will need V5R1 because of 6.10.

As this should observe your PRD server, I would recommend to install it on
another iSeries system (e.g. the TST system).

Hope this helps,

Volker

Subject: Solution Manager

Hello all,

We're starting to take a look at Solution Manager here, to eventually
replace our perfectly functional, stable, and maintenance-free, frame
connection to sapserv4.

I'm trying to decide between installing a standalone R3 instance on the
iSeries, or installing a Web Application Server system on NT/SQL. I'm
not familiar with WAS/NT/SQL, however I'm guessing the hardware involved
would be a good deal less expensive for this piece.

What approach seems to be working best for people? And does anyone have
any ideas on the hardware requirements for a purely standalone Solution
Manager system?
