I installed the 46C Solution Manager in an AS/400 instance. Its one of four
instances on that iSeries server, we didn't add any hardware to the box
There are a lot of features missing that we can only get in the NT version
so we're looking at scrapping it on AS/400 and trying the NT version
instead.

Honestly, we don't use it yet. I still won't enter messages to SAP on the
web because of the horrendous response time, but am forcing myself to
download kernel patches etc that way instead of ftp through sapserv4.
Something about we get stuck where we are the most comfortable?

Our functional team won't take the time to complete any of the info required
to really use Solution Manager the right way, like mapping their business
processes, etc. So if there aren't resources available on "the dark side"
to configure that part of it then it doesn't really matter which version of
solution manager you choose, a major chunk of it will be missing.

We basically did it because of support being delivered through Solution
Manager alone starting in 2003. Good luck, let us know how it works for
you!

Hello all,

We're starting to take a look at Solution Manager here, to eventually
replace our perfectly functional, stable, and maintenance-free, frame
connection to sapserv4.

I'm trying to decide between installing a standalone R3 instance on the
iSeries, or installing a Web Application Server system on NT/SQL. I'm
not familiar with WAS/NT/SQL, however I'm guessing the hardware involved
would be a good deal less expensive for this piece.

What approach seems to be working best for people? And does anyone have
any ideas on the hardware requirements for a purely standalone Solution
Manager system?
