Lockwait on table NRIV
Oh, you asked for avoidance...You cannot avoid bad programmers,
they lurk around all over the world.
All you can do is to avoid a second occurence
of the lock situation for one specific report
by forcing a correction immediately.
Kind regards
Rudi

We know this problem.
You have a program generating a number (which results in an
update on NRIV) but does not COMMIT in a reasonable time.
Usually we see this when batch jobs are running, which are
"badly designed for performance" i.e. do not COMMIT every
feasible transaction.
You can locate the bad guy by looking into the LCKW jobs.
Under 12 and F10 you will find the job holding the lock.
We usually EndJob *Immed this job. This resolves the massive
locks within a minute or so.

Hi all,
yesterday I had a realy mysterious situation on our iSeries.
In SM50 you see a lot of jobs doing a sequential read on NRIV.
In WRKACTJOB this jobs had the status LCKW.
We get a lot of ABAP Dumps telling: database error -913 during SEL on
table NRIV.
Nobody could work and my phone was ringing all the time.
After about 15 Minutes everything was clear again.
In the OSS I found only note 408099 what not realy matched this situation,
but I do this update.
Do someone knows about this or had an idea what to do to avoid this
situation again.
regards
thomas
