TIME CHANGE

Hi Doreen,

I don't know if this is a bit late, (we altered our clocks in the UK last
weekend)..

The only thing to be mindful of is batch jobs....

The way we get round things is to ensure that no batch jobs are scheduled to
run from 1am until 3am. Then you can drop the system, change the system
values then start sapo straight away..

So for us the timeline goes as follows..

1am (DST) no batch jobs start..

2am (DST) stop SAP, Change time (1am GMT), Start SAP

3am (GMT) batch jobs start again..

If you had batch jobs starting from 1am these would run twice, which could
prove quite disastrous.!
In the summer when the clocks go forward, if you had jobs running from 2am
they would not run at all, which could be equally disastrous.

So that in a nut shell is it....takes us about 15mins...

Hope that helps

Andi

We just stare at the walls for 1 hr in the Fall

We were experimenting last week and changed the time (actually,
QUTCOFFSET) with SAP active (our test environment) and it immediately
locked up saying something to the effect that an event happened after an
existing event, but with an earlier timestamp. I would think that that
possibility would exist after a shutdown, too, if it came back up before
that hour had passed. Maybe it depends on what transactions are being
executed?

In the Spring, we'll stop SAP, change the time forward, and bring it
right up, but in the fall, we leave it down for the hour. We take
advantage of that time to either start a checkpoint or run some file
reorganizations.

See below from 391658 - it's the "do NOT use the system for one hour."
Part that is frustrating -

Change from daylight saving time to standard time:
1. Stop the SAP system
2. Do NOT use the system for one hour. During this time, change the
system values QTIME and QUTCOFFSET.
3. Start the SAP system

I followed Note 391658, and it took maybe 5 minutes.
