Triggering a Normal Shutdown
Hi Ravichandra,What you can do is set up a message queue and place that
message queue in system value QUPSMSGQ.
You then have a program that is always running that waits to receive the
messages for this message queue and if you receive a power out message you
can do another receive message that will time out after 1800 seconds.
If you time out you then run the commands to shut down SAP and PWRDWNSYS.
That way you will have a normal shut down.
I have an example of a CL program to do this if you want it.

Subject: Triggering a Normal Shutdown
Hi SAPiens,
We have certain queries regarding controlling system shutdown when
UPS power is being drawn.
We have a communication cable running from our UPS to the iSeries
machine which is basically to sense the availability of Utility power.
We have set the QUPSDLYTIM system value to 1800 secs. When there is
no utility power and the power is drawn from the UPS, we find
appropriate messages being displayed in QSYSOPR message queue. After
1800 secs, if the utility power is not restored, the m/c powers down.
The next time when it comes up, it displays the previous shut down as
abnormal. Also when we check the logs, it says the jobs have ended
abnormally.
Our queries are:
1) how safe is it to implement this kind of a strategy to power down
the system in case of no utility power condition.
2) whether R/3 services stops normally?
Regards,
Ravichandra M
