SAPOSCOL

Thanks Doreen! That's a great e-mail to keep for anyone that may have to do
this in the future.

However, I have completed all of those tasks and if I go over to the
application server now and run the API (CALL QSYS/Q1PENDPM PARM('*IMMED '
X'999999' X'00000000')) it says that PM/400 is not active. So it has been
successfully shut down on the iSeries as far as PM400 is concerned, but
anytime SAP is brought down and restarted, the CRTPFRDTA and QYPSPFRCOL jobs
are back out there again from where the SAPOSCOL restarted them. Which led
me to asking if there was anything I could do through SAP to change the
parameters for SAPOSCOL because I thought I had done everything possible
(which your e-mail verified) to turn it off and keep it from running on the
iSeries.

Thanks to all for their input.

These are all the steps (quite a few of them) you need to take to STOP &
CLEANUP PM400......

- GO PM400
- Take Option #6 - Display PM400 status
- Towards the bottom of the screen you will see how much disk is being
used by performance data files/members that you will be able to delete
further in this process
Performance data members: 13
Performance data size (in bytes): 1,922,192,128

- The QSYSWRK SBSD might have an autostart job entry for PM400 which
will start the product each time QSYSWRK SBS starts; to remove it enter
the following: RMVAJE SBSD(QSYSWRK) QPM400

- Next; we'll "condense" the data to make it easier to delete by doing
the following
- GO PM400
- Choose Option #2 - Work with automatically scheduled jobs
- 2 to change job Q1PDR Performance Data reduction and force the job to
run immediately by changing the date/time to the current date/time
- after the reduction job completes (watch via wrkactjob), then 2 to
change job Q1PPG and force that to run immediately
- after Q1PPG completes, you'll need to run the following program to
prevent the PM400 scheduler/jobs from running again after an IPL (I had
to open a pmr with IBM to get this information)
CALL QSYS/Q1PENDPM PARM('*IMMED ' X'999999' X'00000000')
- WRKACTJOB and manually end QYPSPFRCOL and CRTPFRDTA cuz the Q1ENDPM
won't end those 2 jobs

So, at this point, you've done everything to prevent PM400 from starting
up again and you can cleanup the files it has left behind

- WRKLIB QMPGDATA
- 12 work with objects
- roll to the bottom of the library and you can delete all the
monster/large objects with TYPE *MGTCOL

- GO PM400
- Take Option #6 - Display PM400 status
- Towards the bottom of the screen you will see how much disk is being
used by performance data files/members
Performance data members: 1
Performance data size (in bytes): 22,192,128

With V5R1, IBM made the performance collection an integral part of the
Operating System and an integral PITA (an acronym that I like to use)

Hi Barry,

we don't need that data!
It is just, that we are calling some APIs, that hand us over information
on the CPU-load and whatever.
Since V5R1, there are some objects, that are growing, gwrowing and
growing. On other machines, they are deleted automatically.
Unfortunately I don't have a clou how control this. If you like, you
definetely can delete all of these crazy large objects ! - in qpfrxxx
lib ???
You could open a PMR and ask IBM how to handle and control the automatic
reorg of these jobs - perhaps you can let us know the results ...

Regards

Volker

Hello group,

We have an application server that basically has enough DASD to get by.
It
runs at about 84% capacity on average. SAPOSCOL is apparently kicking
off
jobs that start the performance monitor jobs CRTPFRDTA and QYPSPFRCOL.
Normally, that would be OK but the size of the server will not let us
collect more than a couple of days data without hitting a danger zone as
far
as DASD capacity goes. Since SAPOSCOL kicks these jobs off, is there a
method through SAP that we can change the collection parameters?

Thanks,

Thomas,

there is only one SAPOSCOL per box / machine it doesn't matter how many
SAP
systems you have installed on this machine.

Hi group,

since I installed a second SAP system on our iSeries, the SAPOSCOL
didn't
work. It starts and ends after a short time (WRKACTJOB).
No logs ! No messages ore something else.
Some one know whats going on there ?

Thomas
