We are 4.6C; V5R1; 840DB with 2 SB3's
Traffic we've got 280 users on right now as an example

From the posting, I'm wondering if the issue arises on the i890 hardware
running V5R2 - sounds like that might be the combination which is not
happy.

I do know that the older architecture (8xx) is quite happy running 1GB
on V5R1.

Hello Volker.

Can you be a little more specific as to known problems that you are
aware that have been encountered by shops attempting to use 1 Gb
Ethernet to replace Opti. What we are looking at doing this with 2
Application servers 820's each with 2 GB cards. One for the Opti
replacement, other for user logon. At the DB level 1 BG Ethernet card
just for data, 100m for Basis logon to that box.

Now as I see from Doreen response She has this working for 3 years?

Doreen what SAP Release and OS/400 are you on? What kind of traffic
load do you have Light 50 or less concurrent users, Medium around 200,
Heavy 400-500>.

Big thanks to JJ, Doreen and Volker for information provided.

Udo

Hi Udo,

I can fully agree with Doreen and JJ.

It is no problem at all to divert the traffic. It is just a bit
configuration.
But, as opticonnect is slightly faster than GB Ethernet, I wouldn't
invest money itno this. If you really want to go this way, you should
ask IBM for the new GB Ethernet Card, that requires V5R2. This one is
supposed to have no longer the known bottleneck of the old one. But, I
definetely wouldn't
do it on V5R1.

Before you go to V5R2, you should ask IBM if all performance problems
for your environment are fixed.

Regards

Volker

Hello Groupies.

Layout 3 Tier V5R1M0 840 DB, 820 App servers. 4.6c EBCDIC.

Plans call for here at LF. To get rid of opticonnect and use 1 Gig
Ethernet card to replace, to be precise 2 1GB cards in each App server (
we have 2 app servers). The part that I'm not clear on and maybe some
one out there in the wide, wide world has done this or can shed some
light on this.

Here it comes. How, or can I select which card is used for normal
communication, and assign the second one as a replacement for the
Opticonnect path.

Hope that this makes sense.

Thanks Udo
