46C in 7xx series? & Sizing of Iseries AS /400 server for SAP

Hi,

I don't know the SAPS, but an 840-12 is about 3 times as fast as a 740-12.

Was the old insight appraoch with a result of 740-12 a recommendation for 4.6C
or for 3.1H ?

I would hope (and guess) beased on your figures, that a 840-12 could fit to your
needs. But you need about 24 GB - at least 18GB - of RAM in the new box!

Regards

Volker

Jørgen, the release adjustment factor table will help
me a lot!
Do you know what are the SAPs for the 740-12 and for
the 840-12 way?

Volker, I know this is complicated. We are using not
using much CPU of our app servers. The average of CPU
utilization is 20%. The database is different, we are
using an average of 40% but the peak goes sometimes to
100%, even though we send all the load possible to the
app servers.
Our current response time is around 1.1 s.

We have used in fact the Insight tool, we used it more
than 2 years ago and the recommendation then it was to
go to the 740 12 way. We ran the Insight tool a couple
of weeks ago and the recommendation is to go the the 3
tier 3 825 systems, but It is out of our budget.

We will look for someway to make it to 46c within our
budget, maybe not getting the best performance, but
not killing the system either.

Thank you so much for your feedback!

Judith
