I've found it.

The solution was:
in the SAP DLM config, check the check-box that says 'use tunnelling'.

Hi Christian,

I just checked the web and found out, that currently AS/400 is again shown there
ias "not supported" whjich is an error.

I guess, you want to install 4.6C IDES ?
Then you can have a look to the attachments. Please let me know if I can help

Subject: IDES on iSeries

Hello to all,

is there anybody, who had install IDES on an iSeries?

I got an installaton kit with the DB EXPORT CD on DVD (thanks, I have no DVD
at my iSeries), and the LABEL.ASC does not fit. And the documentation also
doesn't fit (there is only documentation for W2K and Unix available). So I
followed the instructions for Unix and I changed the conted of the LABEL..ASC
to
the expected string, but it doesn't run.

Any ideas ??

Mit freundlichen Grüssen/Yours sincerely

Hello group,

We need an application server for our SAP R3 45B, that it is on a 830
with V5R1. We are looking for a new 810, but it is available only for
V5R2. Can we install an application server on V5R2 if the central db is
on a V5R1 for 45B release?

Thank you,
Juan Mir

no problem at all, if you upgrade to a v5r2 certified kernel patch on all
servers

Christine,

We have not yet set this up so I can't offer details, but I plan to use the
QNTC file system to solve the same problem. I expect ABAP to be able to
write directly to a directory on an NT server via OPEN DATASET, etc. once we
have QNTC operational. I assume that your application is using WS_DOWNLOAD
or DOWNLOAD to transfer the files. Both of these function modules rely on
the SAPgui to perform the transfer. That's why they won't run in
background.

Stan

Subject: Background Jobs

Hi Gang,

Our Payroll department needs to run several background jobs once a month
that pulls and reports on data dealing with Employee 401K Contributions. At
the end of the program, it should take this file and save it off to either a
local file on a PC or to a mapped network drive. When we run this program
in dialog it works successfully, but when we run it in background it fails
at the step of saving the data to a local file. Does anyone know if there
is anything that we can do to be able to run this program successfully in
the background?

Thanks,
Christine

Hi,

We are in the process of going from three tier --> two tier. We
currently have users and printing on three application servers.
Would there be, or has anyone experienced a bottleneck with the 100mb
ethernet card serving all users and all printing request in a two
tier environment? We have about 200 active users and a rather heavy
amount of printing.

Thanks,

Philip Stracener

Subject: SAP R/3 and the other running a legacy system.

Hi all.

We have two iSeries. One of them running SAP R/3 and the other running a
legacy system. We want to read files from this legacy system by means of
an ABAP program. We tried it using EXEC SQL over a DDM file but we
could not did it. We have already reviewed redbook SG24-4672-03 and all
examples are based on the same computer.
Is there any other way to perform it ? Considering that we have two
different computers.

Best regards and TIA

Hello Orlando,
There is a table called DBCON. This is the key to your solution.

You add a row to the table dbcon with the following parameters
con_name = some name for example PRDSYS
DBMS = DB4
User = AS/400 user id (the user must exist on the target system)
Password = whatever (not interpreted)
CON_ENV = AS4_HOST=as0001;AS4_DB_LIBRARY=RMTLIB;AS4_CON_TYPE=SOCKETS;
where as0001 is the host name in the tcp/ip host name table
and RMTLIB is the name of the library that contains the table you want to
access

Then in your abap you would put something like this:

EXEC SQL. CONNECT TO PRDSYS ENDEXEC.

EXEC SQL. SET CONNECTION TO PRDSYS. ENDEXEC.

EXEC SQL.
SELECT MYFIELD FROM MYTABLE
ENDEXEC.

EXEC SQL. DISCONNECT PRDSYS ENDEXEC.

Or...

DATA con_name(30) VALUE 'PRDSYS'.

* Open the link to the database 'PRDSYS'
EXEC SQL.
CONNECT TO :con_name
ENDEXEC.
IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
* Error handling
ENDIF.

* Execution of DB operations
EXEC SQL.
SELECT * FROM MYTABLE
ENDEXEC.

EXEC SQL.
UPDATE MYTABLE SET ... WHERE ...
ENDEXEC.

EXEC SQL.
COMMIT WORK
ENDEXEC.

* Reset to the standard R /3 link
EXEC SQL.
SET CONNECTION DEFAULT
ENDEXEC.

All of this changes a little if you are using an R/3 release prior to 4.6, but
you can look at note 146624 for other information.

Best regards,
Alan

If the three app servers were sharing the 100mb ethernet before, I don't see why
you would experience a bottleneck.
