High response time after upgrade to V5R2

I've already covered the V5R2 history in other postings, and will
state again that in my opinion V5R2 is ok for production use from
both a functional and performance perspective. I'll also restate
that many SAP customers have not had any issues with V5R2
performance.

Across all OS platforms, the minimum memory recommendation is
currently 2GB/processor. Note that over time, as processors speed
up, SAP releases increase resource requirements and customer
workloads increase, the memory guideline increases accordingly.
Sizings made several years ago may no longer be sufficient if you
have updated the environment.

Our data shows that customers at or above the minimum memory
recommendation of 2GB/processor have been getting response times as
good or better than V4R5/V5R1 with V5R2 DB Group 6.

Our data also shows that customers that have something LESS than
2GB/processor are getting response times as good or better than what
they were seeing on V4R5/V5R1 with DB Group 7 and the ptfs in the
current info apar. They should still get more memory to meet the
recommendations, but they aren't any worse off than before.

A few new PTFs are currently in test that should appear in the info
apar next week once they are approved. These ptfs should give more
help to memory challenged customers in particular.

Eduardo, as you told me, you are running an 8-way 730 with 10GB of
memory. So, I expect that the performance should return to the
previous level once you get DB Group 7 installed. I would also
expect that you could also help yourself by coming closer to the
recommended memory size, in your case, 16GB (8processor x 2GB/proc).

I hope this addresses any remaining concerns regarding V5R2. If not,
please post or contact me directly.

Regards, Ron
