New System Build

The process of the OS/DB migration unloads the tables from the R/3 database into
files in a unix type file system. These files are compressed in the unload
process. Then the files are moved to the new file system and r3load puts the
files back into the database. Code page conversion should not be a problem.

Hello everyone,

Please let me further explain the situation we have now. We want to move the
configuration and Z programs to a new SAP installation in Brazil, because they
are doing exactly same business with our current SAP system but speak different
language. Based on the amount of the user activity, SQL server could support the
DB requirement of SAP, as long as the server is properly sized. Also the IT
folks there have experience with windows, but not AS/400.

Our issue is how to load another language with our configuration and programs.
One solution we thought of is like the following:
1. Install SAP from the installation CD on SQL server
2. Import the language in Tcode SMLT
3. Apply the support packages up to the level of our current DEV system
4. Install SNote and LSMW
5. Import Z tables and other inconsistent repository objects from DEV to the new
SAP system
6. Client transport from DEV config client to the new SAP system with profile
SAP_EXPC or SAP_EXPA
7. Import the Z development classes to the new system
After it is finished, we will copy the database to an external hard disk and
load it to the Brazil system as the starting point.

We know that the folks have to reconfig a lot of stuff, at least in FI module,
but other modules may like it, plus all the Z programs are there. We knew that
the final client might not be consistent, but we did it for another installation
in North America, then we compared the configurations, and the business analysts
and developers have fixed all the issues found successfully. But this time we
have concerns on the language problem - we are not sure how the third language
will be affected by the steps 4 - 7. It seems that most of objects in Z
development classes start with Z, and config should not affect the language
specific objects. But if SAP original objects are transported from our DEV
system, we are assuming that it will remove the new language text in the new
system, which might be hard to fix later on. Can anyone have experience on it
and can comment on this approach?

We are also thinking about loading the language after the heregoneous system
copy. (What Don mentioned) Another question is do we have to do the code page
conversion first?

Thank you very much,
Victor

Hi

I have to set up a new system for our South American Division. The new
system has to have all the configuration and programs that our current
system has. We currently run on an AS400 EBSIDIC and the new system will
be SQL 2000. Here is my plan if I missed anything or if what I'm
planning won't work could you please let me know.

Install a new system on the AS400 copy my current DEV system to it.
Delete all clients except for the SAP standards and the Master
Configuration client. Release all the transports that are currently in
that system. Do a Heterogeneous system copy from the AS400 to the SQL
server. Once the system is up on the SQL Sever, install the new language
and run RSTLAN_IMPORT_OCS to catch up the support packs for the
language. Once this is done I could use this client to build out my
landscape. If I missed anything or it won't work as I planned please let
me know. Thank you for your time.

Thank You
