Consolodating 3 tier on a 2 tier AS/400

Hi Matt,

It isn't necessary to have separate LPARS for the apps servers, these can be
set up in the same environment, as we have on a 24 way 840. We didn't
actually do it ourselves - SAP logged on to set these up within our
environment, as prior to this we had been two tier. It's a very good
solution as there aren't really any additional housekeeping tasks to do.

Subject: Consolodating 3 tier on a 2 tier AS/400

Hi

A client is considering moving from a 3 tier SAP system (1 DB and 1 App
server) to a single larger new AS/400.

However they think they might LPAR it so they have a DB LPAR and 2 APP
server LPARS on the same box. I was wondering if the group had any comments
on wheter there was any advantage in this approach. Personally I do not see
why a single system (Central Instance) would not be a better choice to save
on the LPAR overhead and the extra maintenence. Does anyone have experience
of having 3 LPARS on an AS/400 to create a 3 tier system on the same
physical machine ? Was there any advantage found over a 2 tier ?

Thanks in advance !
