Archiving Questions

One other question to the group.

Looking at tcode TAANA, I see that table GLPCA has 32,365,421 records of
which, 11+ million records are from our PRD client from the restore that was
performed from PRD to TST. Will these records be archived and deleted when
the archiving job executes in TST or do they need to manually be deleted?

I thought read somewhere that the archiving objects were client dependant
only.

Thanks,

Thanks Diane.

I guess I was trying to say that if I archived too much data, could I just
delete the archive files from the system and have the system be returned
back to a pre-archive state (hence, updates could be performed on data that
had previously been archived without getting the Data lock message).

I really wish there was a way to link to objects together since there
appears to be about 30 or so objects for the FI component.

Thanks again for your help,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I have not come across any way to link archive objects together into one
session. I have always taken them individually and all the way through
before working on another.

If you are not planning on deleting the data maybe you should use the
test mode of the archive object. You will still get the information
about how much and what data will be archived. There is nothing that
will automatically delete the archive sessions. You can only manually
delete them. I am confused about your question to "delete archive files
and be able to updates previously archived data". Usually the only data
that qualifies for archiving is "Complete or marked for deletion" data.
So I am not too sure what type of update you would do to it. I do
believe that nothing is stopping you from touching the data until it is
actually gone.

I do testing with the test mode then move on to production mode with
only a couple of records and deleting separately. Once I am ready to
archive I set the delete program to run automatically after the write.

I have not started my FI archiving yet but I think the above holds true
for all archiving objects.

Hope this helps!

Hi Gang.

We are getting ready to archive our FI data from our TST system to
decrease
the size of the DB for a remote client copy. I have the archiving
components for FI but had a few questions we could not find the answer
for.

First: Is there a way to link together all the dependent archiving
objects
so only one archiving session can be ran instead of one for each
archiving
object? (ex. FI_ACCOUNT has the pre-requisites FI_DOCUMNT & FI_MONTHLY
objects first before the FI_ACCOUNT object)

Second: I know the data is still in the database if you just archive and
do
not execute the delete job afterwards. From looking at OSS notes,
application help and 'Archiving your SAP Data' book, I'm confused as to
if
there is a flag set that needs to be reset if we do not want to keep the
archive session (Hence just delete archive files and be able to updates
previously archived data).

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
