Faster Tape drive
A 3570 Model C is rated at:
7MB per second native 15MB per second compressed
19 seconds to date in a load and search scenario.
An IBM Ultrium drive is rated at 15/30MB per second with 95 seconds to data.
A 3590 model E is rated at 14/42MB per second and between 53 and 83 seconds
to the data dependent on the tape cartridge used.
All of these numbers are subject to speculation as a number of factors are
at play, the speed of the controller, the available resources of the AS/400,
the data being backed up etc. however they do allow for a baseline for
comparison purposes.
Hope this helps.

Hello Crosby,
I don't know the power of a model 3570 C, so I can't compare, I only can
tell you our backup parameters.
Our database resides on a model 730 (V5R1M0) as well, its actual size is
about 835 Gb.
We have connected two tape drives 3590 E on two 6534 adapters.
We run a parallel backup of database every night which takes app. 7,25
hours.
This means a through put of 57,5 Gb per hour per drive.
During the backup we have batch activity on the machine, so I expect the
backup could be faster if running alone.
Hope it helps.
Best regards,

Hello everyone,
I'm currently running a AS400/730 V5R1M0. Our backup is running a bit long
and I was given the task of finding a faster tape drive. Does anyone out
there know of a faster tape drive than the 3570 C model, also does anyone
know the transfer rate or through put for the 730 e-series please let me
know, any help will be gravely appreciated.
