New System 4.7 Performance Issues

Some things to check:

- What is the size of *MACHINE memory pool in WRKSYSSTS
screen ? Generally, U should assign about twice as much as the
RESERVED sized displayed there.

- Assuming the R3_nn subsystems are assigned to *BASE memory
pool, what is the value assigned to MAXACT parameter of *BASE pool
in WRKSYSSTS screen ? Normally, if U assign the value of the total
number of WPs in all R3_nn subsystems and + 10, U should do fine.
The lower value than this tends to cause performance problem. The
lower the worse.

- WRKCFGSTS *LIN and look at the parameters of the LAN line
description to see if it is running at the expected speed and duplex
setting ?

- Run ST02 and see if there are any buffer swaps issue (normally
shown in RED background). If so, increase the size of the buffer
parameters at issue.

- U mention U have 2 CPUs for DEV/QAS, normally i825 come with 3
CPUs for a start. What is the other CPU for ?

- Do U use the 2757 or 2782 disk controller in your machine ? 2757 is
much faster than 2782 controller and is more proper to use in SAP
settings.

Hope this help.

the installation of SAP. The 4.7 ASCII Enterprise system is installed and
the OS level is V5R2. We have a new iSeries 825 (LPAR) with 2
processors and 3 gig of memory running in DEV/QAS. Disk storage is
350gig with 70% being used. The performance get very slow when 20
to 25 people get on the system to do training and configuration. Even
logons are slow. When we look at the AS/400 green screen
(WRKSYSSTS & WRKACTJOB) we show at a high of 38% CPU
utilization and disk activity utilization of below 50% across the drives.
