Installing two R/3 systems DEV and TST in one iSeries 810 server.

Hi Berhanu,

OSS note 185246 has some hints. Gut feel tells me that the error below is a
symptom and not the problem. The step prior in the install is starting the
SAP system and from your note it appears that this is not happening.
Hopefully there is something in the IFS trace files that will indicate the
problem. Also, I don't know what version you are working with or even if
this will help but have you tried updating to a new kernel patch level. I
have found that the kernel version on the CD is usually much older than what
I am running. If the setup fails I do a quick kernel swap then restart the
setup and it completes.

regards,
Earl

The install stopped at RFCRSWBOINI_IND_IND step with the following error

INFO 2003-12-19 10:14:46
Initializing the Workbench Organizer with RFC

The system has not started. I tried to start it as DEVOFR and SAPSTART
executes without error
but the system does not start. I tried OSS but didnot see any thing that
helps.
If any of you have experienced this in the past I appreciate your comments.

Our development box has 6 SAP systems on it, 5 4.6C systems and 1 6.20
system (Solution Manager) on a 830 with 4 CPU's, 10GB of RAM, and 2.2TB
DASD.

One thing to watch for when running the setup for the second system is about
the kernel. The default is to copy the kernel off the CD, this may conflict
with your existing kernel so you may want to create a separate kernel
library for the new system. I have also heard that there is a switch
parameter you can use to tell setup not to restore the kernel but use the
existing one instead but I don't know what it is. There should be no
problem installing the new system while the first one is running, I have
done it many times.

Earl

Hi,
I have a TST system on 810 server. I want to install a DEV system on the
same box. Is there a document that tells me how
to do this. What is not clear for me is:
a) How does it handle libraries like R3400 and R3WRK00 that are not
identified with SID for two systems on one server?
b) Can I install the second system while the other system on the server is
running?
c) What are the precautions I need to prevent problems during and after the
install of the second system?
I used homogeneous system copy to create the TST system that is running on
the server. My plan is to use the same
procedure to create my DEV system on the same box.

I appreciate your willingness to share your experiences.

Thanks
Berhanu
