Hi Kent,we use a hardware base solution. In our iSeries we have internal disks and
mirrored this to an ESS.
In this ESS there are also the disks for our test iSeries (SAP customizing
and quality systems).
If now the prodution system crashs we switch over to the backupsystem,
with the mirrored disks from the productiv system in the ESS. It is a
little bit tricky because you have to do a load source recovery and you
have to change the load source disk manualy, but you do not have to pay a
lot of money for additional software and you have the whole systems in
your backup environment.
The other point is this switch over takes about 3 hours and the way back a
little bit more (or a slower systems), because the iSeries have to
sychronize the disks back, ESS to internal disks.

High availability solutions
We are in the process of implementing a new SAP installation with a
mirrored iSeries server. We have talked with LakeView, Vision and
DataMirror about their solutions and gotten quotes from all of the
above. Does anyone have any experience with HA and if so, what are
you using? We are trying to decide between the big three and so far,
haven't seen anything to distinguish one from the other.
