I think nearly everybody on iSeries is used to nightly IPLs from the
old days of the CISC boxes. But, R/3 is a bit different. You really
should have a look to switch to an online backup and let R3 up
during night and so do not IPL as well - max ones a week or even
only for PTFs or whatever is necessary.
You should keep in mind, that the buffers have to be filled and the
ODPs have to be opened first after restart - this creates slow
responsetimes at the users. So, you should at least give it a try ...
