Cause . . . . . : The 3270 display emulation device is not available for use. When specifying an emulation device for the EMLDEV parameter, the display emulation device must be at the appropriate status for the command to run successfully. For a nonswitched line the status is VARIED ON. For a switched line the status is VARIED ON or VARY ON PENDING. You can use the Work with Configuration Status (WRKCFGSTS) command to display the current status of display emulation device &2 (WRKCFGSTS CFGTYPE(*DEV) CFGD(&2)).
Recovery . . . : Do one of the following:
-- If the status of the display emulation device is ACTIVE, and you have to use display emulation device &2, wait and try the request later.
-- If the status of the display emulation device is ACTIVE, and you do not have to use display emulation device &2, use another display emulation device by specifying either the EMLDEV, EMLCTL or EMLLOC parameter. The emulation controller in the System/38 environment uses the EMLCTLU parameter instead of the EMLCTL parameter.
-- If the status of the display emulation device is not appropriate and does not show ACTIVE status, use the Vary Configuration (VRYCFG) command to get the emulation device to an appropriate status. If the VRYCFG command does not work, the display emulation device may need to be varied active at the host system as well. Once the display emulation device is at the appropriate status, try the request again.
