ORA-01116 when starting a SAPTEMU
Tip-No.: 609

Symptom

When starting the SAPTEMU for an SAP system, the following error occurs:
ORA-01116 "error in opening database file xyz"
and also: ORA-01115.

Cause

The parameters in the init.ora file of the associated DB causes the
SGA (System Global Area) of the DB to use too much Shared Memory.

Solution

Reduce a number of parameters:
e.g.: "db_block_buffers"
ea reduction of this parameter achieves a large
streduction in size of theGA

"open_cursors" in eina system with a small number (2) of user
the value can lie in the region of 300 (instead
of usual 800 - e.g. demo system)

"transactions_per_rollback_segment"
in a system with a small number of users (2),
the value can be set to 3 - 5 (e.g. demo system)

This should be sufficient to get the system running. If not, then other
parameters must be changed. If so , please refer to Notes 554, 572,
573 and 574 dealing with the init.ora parameters.
