SELECT delivers too many records

Symptom

SELECT with AND and OR conditions in the WHERE clause deliver
too many records.

Cause

Implicit bracketing ( NOT superior to AND, AND takes precedence
over OR) not taken into account.

Solution

Use explicit bracketing, as with e.g. IN operator.
