SOP: Identifying the Selection ID for Resource Leveling
Description
In Release 3.0D upwards of Sales & Operations Planning you can carry out resource leveling for a characteristic values combination which contains no unique plant specification.
A plant is needed in order to determine the selection ID in Customizing. It is via the selection ID that the routing or rough-cut planning profile is read for the purpose of resource leveling. As in previous maintenance levels of Release 3.0, you set the selection IDs for different selection criteria in the step "Define scheduling levels" and the selection priorities in the step "Define routine selection".
There are two situations in which no one plant can be identified:
- The rough-cut planning profile> is based on an information structure which does not contain the characteristic "plant".
- The rough-cut planning profile is based on an information structure which does contain the characteristic "plant", but the characteristic values combination being planned includes more than one plant. For example, you plan all the materials in division TOYS and these materials are manufactured in several different plants.
In Release 3.0D upwards, the system determines the plant as follows:
- Is "plant" one of the characteristics that was specified when the planning table was called up? If so, this is the plant via which the selection ID is determined. If not, the system continues with step 2.
- Has a plant been set for this information structure in the Customizing step "Set parameters for info structures and key figures"? If so, this is the plant via which the selection ID is determined. If not, the system continues with step 3.
- Has a universal SOP plant been set in the new Customizing step "Set planning plant for SOP"? If so, this is the plant via which the selection ID is determined. If not, no resource requirements can be read and resource leveling cannot be carried out.
Plant is one of four criteria via which the selection ID is identified. SOP determines these criteria in the following order:
First Choice | |
---|---|
Plant | see above |
Order group | 1 |
Order type | [space] |
Production scheduler | [space] or entry as in material master |
Second Choice | |
Plant | see above |
Order group | 1 |
Order type | [space] |
Production scheduler | * |
Third Choice | |
Plant | see above |
Order group | 1 |
Order type | * |
Production scheduler | [space] or entry as in material master |
Fourth Choice | |
Plant | see above |
Order group | 1 |
Order type | * |

Effects on Customizing
You define planning plants for specific information structures in Set parameters for info structures and key figures.
You define a default planning plant for Sales & Operations Planning in Set planning plant for SOP.
You define the selection criteria for selection IDs at different scheduling levels in Define scheduling levels.
You define the sequence in which routings and rough-cut planning profiles are determined in Define routing selection.
