Short text

Material Origin for All Order Types

Description

In Releases before 4.0A the Material origin indicator was interpreted for the following order categories:

  • Process orders (order category 40)

From Release 4.0A onwards, the Material origin indicator is interpreted for all order categories. This means that regardless of the order category used, you can calculate quantity-based overhead and display the costs in the information system.

You set the Material origin indicator in the costing view of the material master record. Costs incurred due to the use of the material are updated on the order under the material number and the quantity consumed. If the Material origin indicator is not selected, the costs are only updated under the cost element of the material used.

Further notes

For more information on quantity-based overhead, see:

Define Quantity-Based Overhead.

Selecting the Material origin indicator will adversely affect performance. If the indicator is turned on, the data volume and processing time will increase depending on the materials used. From the point of view of cost analysis, it is recommended that you only select the indicator for materials that significantly influence your costs (ABC analysis). For materials that have less influence on costs, analyzing the costs at the level of cost elements or at the level of cost elements and origin groups is usually adequate.
