New functions in SAPoffice

Description

New document type: Object folder

An object folder is used for managing objects. Like other folders, object folders can contain additional folders, which are displayed in the folder hierarchy. Additional functions are also available in object folders:

  • Create
  • Display/change
  • Send
  • Create attachments
  • Print
  • Delete
  • Define expiration date for the objects in the folder.

An object folder can contain only objects which are defined in the BOR, with their methods. The objects in the object folder can be separated in a hierarchy and processed using the following SAPoffice functions:

  • Create
  • Execute
  • Delete

The objects in the object folder can be executed, i.e. the methods assigned to the objects can be started. This method can involve, for example, displaying a material master record, initiating a telephone call or starting a workflow.

When to use object folders:

Object folders are suitable for topic-oriented management of information and work processes, as long as these have been defined as objects.

Enhancing the object services

Business objects from all applications can be processed in a standard way by the object services. From Release 4.5A, additional SAPoffice functions are available in this area:

  • Linking objects with notes, attachments and other documents
  • Sending objects with notes
  • Displaying an overview of all sent objects

Integrating MS Office applications

You can choose between the following settings when creating and editing MS Office files (Word documents or PowerPoint slides):

  • independent editing outside the R/3 window (this was the standard setting before Release 4.5A)
  • integrated processing in the R/3 window (new in Release 4.5A)
  • integrated processing outside the R/3 window (new in Release 4.5A)

As a result of the new integration, you can call both the functions of the corresponding application and R/3 functions directly when editing the documents.

New communication methods

SAPoffice now offers two additional communication methods for sending documents:

  • Paging
  • Printing

Settings for user notifications

Express messages are displayed to users in the current session. You can define whether a new session is to be started when a function is executed from the express message itself (e.g. displaying the integrated inbox). In addition, you can also define whether or not you wish to receive a message about unread documents in your inbox whenever you log on to the R/3 System.

Report for exporting R/3 addresses to the LDAP service

A new report which can be used to export addresses from R/3 address management to an LDAP service.

Support for LDAP version 3

From Release 4.5A onwards, the LDAP Gateway supports LDAP version 3.

New area for administration

The Business Communication area has a new administration menu which can be reached via Tools --> Business Communication. The SAPoffice administration menu can be found in this menu under Office.

Free text editor

In Release 4.5A, the SAP editor offers a user-friendly interface for entering documents and messages.
