Short text
Performance Enhanced by Parallel Processing in CO-PC and PS
Scope of Functions
You can improve runtimes by performing some functions in parallel. In parallel processing, the relevant objects are not processed one after the other on one server, but in parallel on one or more servers. Parallel processing can now be used with the following functions:
- Results analysis in engineer-to-order production
- Summarization for product drilldowns (from Release 4.0A)
- Variance calculation for cost object hierarchies
Activating Parallel Processing
You need to activate parallel processing for results analysis and the other transactions in period-end closing which you want to process in parallel. Proceed as follows:
- If you work with the Schedule Manager, activate the Parallel processing indicator and enter the server group (new for Release 4.6A).
- If you trigger the period-end closing transaction outside the Schedule Manager, enter a server group in collective processing when maintaining the job parameters for background processing (no change from earlier releases).
You activate parallel processing for the product drilldown summarization by choosing Extras -> Parallel processing before running data procurement. This brings up the parallel processing dialog box. Enter the required data and choose Copy. Then execute the data procurement run.
The server group determines which application servers are used.

Further Information
For information on other period-end closing transactions where you can use parallel processing, and on how to create a server group, refer to the release note Improved Performance in Product Cost Controlling.
The Schedule Manager is a new feature in Release 4.6A. For more detailed information about it, read the release note: EnjoySAP - Schedule Manager.
For comprehensive information on results analysis, refer to the documents Cost Object Controlling -> Product Cost by Sales Order and PS Project System.
