Compare / Refresh Function for Correcting Data Inconsistencies

Use

As of the R/3 Plug-In Release 2000.1 and APO 3.0A (First Customer Shipment and Support Package 1), you can determine and correct data inconsistencies between the APO and R/3 systems using the Compare / Refresh function. The function takes non-existent and inconsistent data into consideration . In SAP APO, this function includes stock, sales orders, planned orders, production orders, purchase orders, purchase requisitions, and manual reservations. You can choose whether the data to be referenced is in the APO or R/3 System.

When you use the Compare / Refresh function, the system first compares the data and then generates a list of the inconsistent objects determined in this way. You can then select individual objects, several objects, or indeed all objects for the refresh. You can subsequently choose the system in which the data to be referenced is stored. The data of the other system is adjusted accordingly.

This functionality has also been supplied to APO 2.0A by means of Support Package 5.

Effects on Existing Data

Existing data is only affected when you execute the Compare / Refresh function. This can influence data in both the APO and R/3 systems. Depending on how the function is used, the system adds, deletes, or generates data in one of the two systems.

Effects on Data Transfer

You can use the Compare / Refresh function to trigger the manual transfer of data from the R/3 System to APO (or vice versa), as well as to select the data to be transferred.

Effects on System Administration

The Compare / Refresh function should only be used by system administrators. As the function enables the user to modify data in the APO and R/3 systems, its usage requires exact knowledge of the dataset in APO and R/3. If the function detects data inconsistency between the two systems, you must decide in which system (R/3 or APO) the reference data is located and which data should be released for transfer.
