APO-PPS-BF: Resources in External Procurement

Use

An externally procured order in APO includes procurement from external vendors as well as procurement from another plant. Vendors and plants are both represented as locations in APO. In Release 2.0A, externally procured orders were scheduled using the calendar maintained for the location and the transportation lane.

As of Release 3.0A (First Customer Shipment and Support Package 1), resources can be used to schedule externally procured orders in Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling. This means that you are able to precisely schedule the goods receipt, transport and goods issue while taking the capacity into account. Every externally procured order consists of three activities:

  • Goods receipt
  • Transport
  • Goods issue

You are now able to use resources or a calendar for these activities. The type of resource that can be used is not restricted: you can use a bucket resource, time stream (single or multi-activity) or a mixed resource. If you have maintained a resource for all three activities, the resources are used to schedule the activities. If, however, a resource for an activity has not been maintained, the calendar is used to schedule the activities. If the calendar has not been maintained, calendar days are used for scheduling.

The advantage of using resources is that the limited capacity of resources can be taken into account which leads to feasible dates, as orders are moved into the future if capacity is not available on the required date. When resources are used, the activities are not fixed (as opposed to activities when using calendars) which allows the system to propagate changes to the externally procured order when higher level orders are changed.
