New memory management

Description

As of Release 3.0A, the R/3 System contains a new memory management facility.

This new facility aids performance improvements due to faster context changes and faster access to internal tables.

It also allows you to use the new complex ABAP/4 data types. Since these data types require direct access to the address space of the user context, they could not be stored by the previous SAP paging.

The new facility is activated as standard when you install Release 3.0A and Release 3.0B or the upgrade to Release 3.0B of the R/3 System.

For further information on the new memory management facility, refer to the document "System Services". To do this, choose Help -> R/3 library and then select 'Basis Components' followed by 'System Administration'.

Damage caused to data by errors

None possible.

Software/hardware requirements

You may have to extend the memory and/or the swap space of the host system on which the SAP system runs. For further information, refer to the document 'System Services'.
