System log messages categorized to improve usefulness

Description

As part of the integration of the R/3 System Log into the alert monitor of the R/3 CCMS (Computing Center Management System), the 1400+ messages of the system log have been re-organized and assigned explicit severity valuations.

The assignment of new attributes to R/3's system log messages has the following benefits:

• Each system log message now has a clear context that is based upon the component from which the message is issued.

Example: It is now possible to select messages that pertain to background processing or to the database.

• Each system log message now has a clear significance or importance. Critical messages have a correspondingly high significance and can trigger alerts.

The system log has also been completely integrated into the CCMS alert monitor (Transaction RZ20). There, system log messages can be displayed in context in log attributes, a new type of monitoring functionality offered by the alert monitor.
