SAP-DEFAULT monitoring properties variant

Description

With Release 4.5B, the alert monitor (Transaction RZ20) of the SAP CCMS (Computing Center Management System) includes the new SAP-DEFAULT monitoring properties variant.

SAP-DEFAULT is a properties variant that contains SAP's default values for properties (alert thresholds and method assignments, for example) of all the MTEs in the monitoring hierarchy (monitoring contexts, objects and attributes in the tree display in Transaction RZ20). Since Release 4.0A, users can create their own properties variants containing specific properties for the monitoring objects in their system. These user-defined values in active variants take priority over the the SAP-DEFAULT values. At a Release upgrade, the user's own properties remain unchanged in the system and are not overwritten by SAP-DEFAULT. This means that both the latest default values proposed by SAP and the user's own settings remain present in the R/3 System.

SAP-DEFAULT cannot be changed or deleted. However, users can make a copy of either the whole properties variant or of individual MTE classes and attribute groups. They can save this copy as a separate properties variant and then change the properties of MTEs.

The main advantage of SAP-DEFAULT is that users do not have to set values for each individual MTE. Where users have not defined their own values for the properties of a monitoring object, the SAP-DEFAULT values will apply. SAP-DEFAULT also provides users with a set of values which they can use as a fallback if they accidentally change the default values provided by SAP, as well as a reference to the values that SAP recommends you should use.
