Release Notes: CCMS Data Archiving (ADK, SARA, DB15)

Description

Selecting a server for background jobs

As of Release 4.5, when you customize the archiving function you can select the server on which you want the archiving and deletion programs to run as background jobs. You can select the server for a single archiving object, or for or all archiving objects. If you do not select a server with an active background job the archiving program runs on the database server, if the database server has an active background job. If no background job is active the archiving program or the deletion program is scheduled on whichever application servers have active background jobs.

Setting up the index when writing to the archive files

The ADK index is a link between the data object and the archive file. When you access a particular archived database object you access this index. Up until now this index was set up in parallel with the active deletion program. When you restore certain data objects from the archive file to the database and write the other object to a new archive file, you have to reorganize the index. As of Release 4.5 this index can be reorganized in parallel with the restore program that is writing to the new archive file.

Displaying the spool list for an archiving session in archiving management

Until now you could display the spool list for an archiving session in the job overview only. When you deleted the jobs you lost the link between the archiving session and the list. As of Release 4.5 you can display the session list in archiving management (even if the jobs have already been deleted).

New feature when generating archiving programs

The ADK can generate archiving and deletion programs for certain applications (for example GLX) on the basis of a logical database. This process uses templates and function modules that have been converted to the "NODES" technique in Release 4.5. This means that the programs can also be generated for table names with more than 10 characters.

New archive file selection flag for the index setup program

When you maintain archiving objects (using the transaction AOBJ) you can set a flag to decide whether the archive for reorganizing the index should be selected within archive management (transaction SARA), or with a program variant.

CCMS and data archiving

To keep the amount of data in the database as low as possible, you can use the database administration functions in CCMS as of Release 4.0 to search for suitable archiving objects in tables (transaction DB15) and then go to archive management. To help you decide whether it is a good idea to archive data, information is provided, such as the allocated memory per table and index, or the current number of data records. This information either comes from current statistics (if this is supported by the database system), or it is given online as memory information. As of Release 4.5B, the pushbuttons for this information are hidden if database system cannot provide this information.

ADK-EURO interface

As of Release 4.0, euro application function modules have been integrated into the ADK function modules for writing, reading and restoring data. These modules check whether these methods can be used for the archiving object in combination with the conversion to the euro.
