Database Administration in CCMS
Many of the database administration transactions in the Computing Center Management System (CCMS) are now more powerful and easier to use.
Scope of Functions
Improved operation monitoring: DB14 replaced by DB24
Transaction DB14 for operation logs is replaced by Transaction DB24 with its additional functions. DB14 is no longer a menu option and can only be called using the transaction code.
Operations monitor (DB24): optimized display
The graphic display in Transaction DB24 provides a better overview for monitoring operations. The display can be printed and provides filter functions and detailed descriptions of errors using alerts. Because all SAPDBA operations are logged in the XBD interface, the operations monitor can monitor SAPDBA operations that are running as well as those that have completed.
Extended monitor functions (DB16)
The new object-oriented interface provides display, filter, and editing functions that are easier to use. For example, you can delete, reset, or automatically refresh (auto-refresh) alerts.
Configuring parameters (DB17)
New parameters for alert types DBA, ORA und PROF support better monitoring of R/3 database systems. This lets you recognize critical database conditions in time to prevent a system failure. For example, the DBA alert type parameter FS_FULL checks whether the amount of available space in all SAPDATA directories is below the specified threshold value. In addition, the parameters for the new alert type DBO tell you which database operations had errors since the last check (return code >1) or which have not been processed successfully since a certain set date ("last success too old").
You can also use an object specification to:
- Specify threshold values for objects thus overwriting the parameter definition
- Define negative lists for parameters to exclude certain objects from being checked
Maintaining parameters online (DB27)
You can use the new Transaction DB27 to maintain database parameters online. Display and filter options provide easier access to parameter history and details. For example, you can display all database parameters checked by the database system check.
Maintaining database connections (DBCO)
The new Transaction DBCO is used to maintain the table DBCON. This table stores information about database types, passwords, and so on for non-standard database connections.
