Short text

Use SAPDBA to:

  • Monitor use of memory space
  • Change memory parameters
  • Restore files
  • Improve security

Description

The check and analysis functions in the SAPDBA reorganization menu
were enhanced. You can now call the ORACLE analysis commands
(ANALYZE

COMPUTE|ESTIMATE STATISTICS
or VALIDATE STRUCTURE) from the corresponding SAPDBA menu.
These operations are logged in .rch.
You can access statistics if they are
up-to-date.
You can also use the SAPDBA -ANALYZE command option with
the appropriate options (option, time) for analyses.
You can now call SAPDBA -ANALYZE and SAPDBA -NEXT by specifying a list
of tablespaces.
Example of a call: SAPDBA -ANALYZE PSAPTESTD,PSAPTESTI
These operations are logged in .aly or
.nxt.

During reorganization you can use the "Reduce object size" function
on the memory parameters of the objects
affected by the reorganization. SAPDBA determines the space
used by the tables and indexes and specifies a size for the new
object that fits these values.
You can use this function to reduce the INITIAL extent values set after a reorganization for tables with large amounts of unused space.

Choose "Restore/Recovery -> Restore individual file(s)" to restore files.
Choose "File type" to specify the type of files to restore.

You can restore the following files:
Non-database files, database data files, control files,
online redo log files, offline redo log files, the ORACLE profile,
the BRBACKUP/BRARCHIVE profile, the central SAPDBA log,
and summary/detail BRBACKUP/BRARCHIVE logs.
Choose "BRBACKUP run" to specify backups to use to restore the files.

SAPDBA can also be started if a user is logged on as adm
The user must have the corresponding SAPDBA authorizations
(for example, the s-bit must be set for UNIX).

You can use this to separate the authorization to use SAPDBA from the
authorizations for the user ora (for example, call SQLDBA).
