Selective Deleting

Use

In addition to the deletion of whole requests, you have the option of deleting data from fact the table according to business management aspects. For example, you can delete data for a cost center or a customer even if the data is distributed over several requests.

If you delete data selectively, the affected aggregates are deleted automatically.

Functions

You can get a list of all the characteristics for an InfoCube in InfoCube Administration under InfoCube Content, where you can select the characteristics or characteristic values that are to be deleted. Before you delete the data from the InfoCube, there is a whole range of other options that you can use.

Reconstructiong Aggregates

If you select this option, all aggregates that existed for the InfoCube before the selective deletion are reconstructed and activated.

Database-dependent Options

Degree of parallelism for Reconstruction (ORACLE)

When deleting there are various strategies that are selected automatically according to the selection. The data records are either deleted directly from the database (if only a few records are to be deleted), or a new database table is created for the remaining records (when there are a lot of data records).

In the latter case you can enter here how many parallel processes are to be used for reconstructing the tables.

Parallelism for Reconstruction (IBM)

If you select this function, parallel processes are used for reconstructing tables. The database decides how many processes are used.

Switching off the Logging when Reconstructing (ORACLE)

Any changes you make to the database are written to a log file. For performance reasons, you have the option of deactivating this log function, although you must then carry out a database backup.

Displaying Generated Reports

The report generated upon deleting is displayed as an output list.

Activities

Select the Selective Deletion pushbutton in the InfoCube Content tabstrip. Then select the Deletion Selections pushbutton in the selection screen.
