New Hierarchy Functions in BEx (New)

Use

For Release 3.0A, there are the following new hierarchy functions:

  • Hierarchies in rows and columns: As opposed to earlier releases, it is now possible to depict presentation hierarchies in rows and columns and to navigate the hierarchies. The restriction to just one active presentation hierarchy is no longer valid. Any amount of structures, characteristics with active presentation hierarchies, and characteristics without active presentation hierarchies, can now be distributed on the axes (rows and columns).
  • Structures with hierarchical structure: The hierarchical relationship of structure parts in a structure that is maintained in the Query Designer is depicted in the executed query as a presentation hierarchy. Nodes can be expanded and collapsed.
  • Display as hierarchy: You can set per axis (rows and columns) whether all objects of that axis (structures, characteristics with and without active presentation hierarchies) should be displayed as a single hierarchy. For example, you can use this function to display the duplicate drilldown 'countries', 'regions' and 'towns' as a hierarchy although no presentation hierarchy exists for it. Another example is the uniting of cost centers and cost element hierarchies in one hierarchy.
  • Refreshable Expand Statuses: After refreshing a query in a solution work folder or after calling up a Web Application, the system reproduces the hierarchy expand status as it was when the solution work folder was saved.

Effects on Existing Data

The existing queries produce the same results as before, and the tabular structure remains unchanged.

Queries, in which the characteristics with an activated presentation hierarchy feature in the columns, are an exception. In earlier releases, these characteristics were depicted in the columns without using the presentation hierarchy. In Release 3.0A, these queries display the presentation hierarchy in the columns.
