Aggregate Type: MOLAP Aggregate (new)

Use

As of Release 3.0A, you can also create aggregates for a MOLAP Data Storage, in a BW with a SQL server databank.

The definition of an InfoCube enables you to save an aggregate of this InfoCube as a MOLAP Aggregate and not as a ROLAP Aggregate as before. MOLAP aggregates have a better performance in certain modellings than the ROLAP-Aggregate, which is based on relational databank tables. However, MOLAP aggregates are not functionally better enhanced than the ROLAP aggregates.

Effects on Existing Data

Existing InfoCubes can be converted from ROLAP to MOLAP. A return transaction from MOLAP to ROLAP is also possible.

Effects on System Administration

An additional RFC destination has been set up for the BW installation process. This destination relates to the RFC server which manages the MOLAP data storage. We recommend that you set up an additional background process for each application server, because MOLAP aggregates are often processsed in the background.
